DQS10 – Gee, It’s a Bloody Mary Bendy Block

OK partner – What do you think? I went for the central inspiration pic in the end and in true Gee’s Bend style, I just randomly pieced as I went along. Please be totally honest! There’s plenty of time to go with something else!

Would you prefer something more like the chopped wonky cabins in the bottom right of the original inspiration pic? I know some of you preferred that, but ultimately I really care what my partner thinks most … not that I don’t love you all 😉

The bottom right and left are pieced strips from Echino. Also includes Ruby Star Rising View Master and Lady Heads combined with a Lecien chartreusey-yellow dot (looks much cooler in tone in real life)

The blocky squares print is a Robert Kaufmann Quilts for Kids print, and the swirlies are Patty Young Zen Garden Sanctuary in Espresso and Sherbet.

The red is Kona Tomato, and the neutral is Celery … hence the Bloody Mary?! LOL

I’ve never improv pieced anything before and I found it a really interesting process … I wasn’t sure that I liked this at all at first, so not my usual kind of style, but it’s growing on me … So, partner, do you think the Bloody Mary would grow on you?

Boats Completed!

A sampling of the boats built as part of the Stockholm young boat builders "club," called ungdomarnas. The "students" are preparing for a 3 week archipelago tour with their complete boats.

There’s a man in Stockholm that coaches the kids. Each boats takes 1000 to 3000 hours to build. He bought an old Swedish Navy boat and outfitted it with machine and woodworking tools. The kids come there on weekends and holidays for about a year or two.

The teenagers build everything. They cut and sew the sails. They use metal working tools for any (few) metal parts. They cut all the wood. They do all the finishing.

I have a whole set of these boats here.
