Where can I buy TUBE cotton jersey fabric by the yard online;not Alibaba (had overseas shipping probs)?
Question by caatsinthecradle: Where can I buy TUBE cotton jersey fabric by the yard online;not Alibaba (had overseas shipping probs)?
Bigger project, must be cotton, must be tube, prefer 60inch, some spandex, some flexibility okay. Cannot find anything but some scraps on etsy and ebay. How is this possible? Fabric stores used to be well supplied with tube fabrics for costumes etc. thanks!

Fabric stores- the brick and mortar kind- for me have really lost their luster. Even places like Jo-Anne Fabrics, which is a huge store, has very little in terms of variation. It’s almost entirely quilter’s calico cotton or chiffons.
And of course, buying fabric online is a bit tough, b/c 1) color issues, and 2) you have to pay more to ship it.
I actually tried doing the Alibaba thing too, but I was completely lost when it came to answering how I wanted the textiles sent to me- FOB? What Port? Do I have a courier? Umm,…Don’t you just mail it to me? I felt really stupid for not knowing what that stuff meant, and couldn’t for the life of me understand why i couldn’t have it mailed, since i’ve bought things overseas before and never needed that stuff. I know there are sellers who do retail and wholesale on their, but I don’t think retail is their forte. The language barrier is always a huge problem, and then I worry asking about what something means will make them think i’m an easy mark and they’ll try to up sell me.
Sorry, I’m rambling ;P I have bought some cotton/spandex blends for yoga pants from a place online called Designer Alley fabrics, and had a really good experience with them. They’ve got a pretty broad selection, and there’s a lot of different blends, and I thought their prices were really fair. Etsy is kind of outrageous when it comes to fabric.
I’m not sure how much fabric you’re looking for, but I know they do wholesale prices too, and they will custom-design fabric if you can’t find what you need. I’m sure there’s a minimum order requirement for that service, so if you’re just looking for personal use, that might not apply- but really, they had a pretty wide selection, so I can’t see you having trouble finding what you need.
Okay, I just did a search for you there with “tube cotton spandex” and it brought a HUGE list, so yes, definitely available. Most of the fabrics were between 10-12 oz, weight wise. Pricing was around $ 10.50 a yard, not too bad. They have swatches for $ 1.00, or you can buy a booklet with all the colors-I bought one for their cotton jersey so I didn’t have to sweat the colors being vastly different from how they looked on screen. Also, they had a banner for free shipping, but I don’t know how long that lasts, so make sure to look for it if you do order.
Hope that helps, and happy stitching! I love sewing projects 🙂
