One of two exhibit cases demonstrating some of the "how" of quilt-making, then and now. This is "then", and not all that long ago–in fact, still current for those who like to work in a traditional way. The sewing machine is a Singer Featherweight, a prized miniature machine that is portable and fully capable.
It is important to remember that the sewing machine (not yet electric) was invented in the late 18th C., but not widely manufactured for home use until the middle of the 19th C. Prior to that, all quilting was strictly a hand-and-needle process.
