I’m very confused about brands… which is the best brand in the market? Is Janome a good brand? Can someone fill me in? Plz. specify brand name and model no.! Thank you!

I’ve been sewing for over 40 years and had a lot of different machines (started sewing on a treadle machine my grandmother gave me). But, for sewing heavy fabrics and quilting I have to recommend an old Singer. I have 4, one I got at a yard sale for 10.00, another one I bought for 65.00 at a Habitat for Humanity ReStore and the other I got at a junk shop near where my mother lives that I paid 100.00 for and the last off Ebay that is in a wooden carry case. The other 3 are in beautiful wood cabinets.(the one from the junk store has the waterfall design that matches my grandmother’s cedar chest and work wonderfully when I sew through thick fabrics. They are all made between 1935 and 1957, heavy duty and a dream to use. You can buy a walking foot that will fit them for quilting if you need to but I haven’t found it necessary as I use cotton batt between my layers. We don’t usually need big heavy quilts here in the South but when we do it’s just as easy to pile on 2 or 3 for the short amount of time our weather is cold.
If you want the best quilting machine, find an old Singer. A Featherweight is best if you can afford it or if you’re lucky enough to find one in a thrift store or yardsale. Take it to a reputable sewing shop and have them do a tune up on it and I believe you’ll be a convert too.
Now if you want all the fancy embroidery stuff then I can’t speak to a make or model. I just do straight sewing on a machine and any embroidery or fancy stitching I do by hand.
