Viking sewing machines?

Question by Kara: Viking sewing machines?
I want a good machine that doesn’t eat threads or whatever else. I don’t think it’s necessary to spend thousands of dollars for what I want to use it for. I heard Viking is a good brand so I’d like some help narrowing it down (yes I know craigslist sells for less but still I don’t want something with a million functions that aren’t necessary). =P

I want to sew light fabric from lace and satin to levi/demin. I want to straight stitch, zigzag, blind hem and have it cut/produce button holes. Also I know I can talk to someone in my area who specializes in mending machines but I’m asking here for real consumers and not someone trying to push something on me, thanX

No experience with Viking, but you can a get a good Singer for $ 200 at Target or Sears that does all those things. Look at the precision, it’s a great machine with 50 stitch patterns.

If you are ‘eating thread’ it is more likely the quality of the thread, not the machine.
