So I have a crappy Brother sewing machine that cost as much as maintenance would so it has never been tuned up. It’s basically a disposable sewing machine. I’ve had it for YEARS. It’s crapping out all together now and is only able to sew a straight stitch.. completely incapable of zigzag or anything.
I need to make a harness sort of thing for a costume and I need to use leather straps. They won’t be extremely thick or anything but it’s still leather. If I get a really strong needle and take it slowly will it work or do I absolutely have to have a sewing machine that sews leather.
No, pleather is not an option because I can’t find any of the right color.. it really needs to be nice on both sides as well. It would be better for me to get leather strips and use shoe polish on them or something.
Is this doable? If I DO need a sewing machine that is capable of sewing leather and thicker materials like that.. is there a sewing machine that does it all? Leather, denim, and normal sewing projects? Something that isn’t EXTREMELY expensive. I don’t want a separate leather sewing machine because I won’t be sewing leather THAT often.

Do u have one of them thickness turny thing on ur sewing machine? If its a thickish peice of leather then u might want to turn it up to 4 or 5 so ur needle wont snap. But if u dont have the turny thing then just try it – 1. the needle wont brake, and if it does they r cheap to buy. 2. if it brakes half way throughthen u could try and hand sew it. hope that helps
