How many yards of fabric do I need to make a Woman’s button up blouse?

Hi! I’m fairly new to sewing with a machine and I was planning on trying to make a button up, short sleeved, woman’s shirt with a collar. I’m not quite sure how much fabric I need though. I’d like the bottom of the blouse to cover the tops of my pants pockets. and my measurements are 38-28-38 (I know, I need to loose weight…) and I do have rather large arms. about how many yards of fabric do you think I will need?
Any advice from you Yahoo sewing gurus would definately be appreciated!

Look at patterns for a similar garment and it will tell you how much fabric you need. remember to allow extra if the fabric has a 1 way pattern or a pattern that needs matching at centre front.
